As I mentioned last week, I wanted to do another band that I loved in my late teens this week that where a bit more of an underground hit for me. Had a bit of trouble picking the right song but I feel this song and video does it all justice.
‘La Ultima Hora’ by Breed 77 is the first song I heard by the guys and is also a great example of what to expect from Breed 77. Originally from the rock of Gibraltar, these guys have taken their Spanish roots (note that Gibraltar is it’s own nation with ties to Britain more than Spain, but you get the idea) to mix in with Metal creating this form of Flamenco Metal. I loved the sound, it weirdly appealed to me as I like that mix of different sounds being blended into metal, Finntroll also being a great example of this with it’s mix of Finnish folk and Death Metal and also Yidcore with it’s mix of Punk and Yiddish!
Any who, the thing with Breed 77 is I’ve only seen them once but it was such an amazing gig; again at The Joiners in Southampton. Got to the front of the stage and kept on screaming the vocals into the mic with Paul Isola; I’m pretty sure he was coming down and passing the mic to me?
Great band that are still around to my knowledge and if you would like to check out more then take a listen to their cover of Iron Maiden’s ‘Number of the Beast‘.
