‘Make It Stop (September’s Children)’ by Rise Against

Bit of a heavy video this week that deals with the hard subject of suicide of minors for being different; lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender.

Rise Against’s “Make It Stop (September’s Children)” deals with the suicide of kids in September, 2010; most notably the story of Tyler Clementi, which I heard about through the grape vine a few months back. The video is quite strong in it’s message and in a weird way you understand the feeling of why they think suicide is an answer, but it’s not worth it.

One of the best ways I’ve heard suicide being told is “a permanent solution to a temporary problem” by MC Lar in response to a friend of his who commited suicide (also Gay but I’m not sure if the two are linked). That saying was taken from American Foundation For Suicide Prevention that MC Lars collaborated to do a video for his his friend Patrick Wood called ‘Twenty-Three‘.

But Rise Against did this video in collaboration with another suicide prevention group called It Gets Better that focuses on LGBT teenagers struggling to mature into who they are and suffer from bulling in their schools. They done it in a great way that the main way you contribute is through uploading a video with a positive message that it will get better.

Although I’ve never felt suicidal personally but I’ve been there for people who are and it’s difficult, but you sooner be there and help them then for them to take their own life. In the end it’s been for the best as they’ve made something for themselves and learnt to deal with the issues they faced. But if you feel alone then talk to somebody, be it your friends, parents, family, doctor, nurse, care-worker or a stranger; sometimes just to open out your feelings to people will make you feel better, it may not solve anything but it’s a release.

If you want to open up then post anonymously on here, I never publish emails but if you feel safer then use Mailinator to grab a temp email address; I check all comments so you won’t ever see anything that you shouldn’t see.

I’ve also got a list here for people to look through if you want to learn more, want to help or need help.
